Whats On Around Buckinghmshire
118 Mile Archer GP Cycle Race
April 9th 2006
This year the race has been revised and the new route features familiar highlights for riders while allowing greater opportunities for spectators.
The race starts in its traditional base of Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire, before heading towards the heart of the Chiltern Hills. Riders will once more ascend the climb of Whiteleaf Hill, near Princes Risborough, as used in the 2005 edition. However, this years edition will require the riders to make the ascent five times! That is one more than last year and has been assessed as perhaps the toughest climb in the whole Premier Series, in which this is the first event. This climb will feature a King of the Mountains competition which should lead to decisive attacks.
The race then returns from this 15 mile circuit to Hazlemere via a climb of Cryers Hill, before moving on to the traditional finish 6-mile circuit based on Winchmore Hill village where it will finish after seven laps.
Essentially the two circuits used are the same as in '05, although for this year a new route has been devised to link the two without using the busy A413 main road. The police and county have agreed this improvement and will be cooperating with the organising duo of clubs, www.agiskoviner.com and the Archer RC and to ensure maximum safety and least practical disruption.

Steam Trains
April 1st and 2nd 2006
On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April Chiltern Railways are celebrating
the centenary of the railway line through Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield.
Each day, they are running three special steam trains in each direction between
High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and London Marylebone. This is
a rare opportunity to travel by steam on the Chiltern main line behind two
different former Great Western Railway 'Hall' class locomotives, which will
be 'top and tailing' the train, one at either end.
Chiltern Railway says the tickets for the steam trains are selling fast, so
don't delay and miss your chance to take part in this special occasion. There
are unlikely to be tickets available on the day, so we would strongly suggest
you book in advance. To get your tickets call our special Centenary Ticket
Hotline on 01926 729733 (0900 to 1700, Mondays to Fridays). Hotline bookings
open until 1200 on Wednesday 29 March. (Photos
